The void that is the black-hole of addiction.

This is part 3 of the interview between Kelsey Grammer and William Shatner. Shatner talks to Grammer about the family tragedies in his life, his bout with alcoholism and the heart break of his childhood. In this section, Kelsey describes (in words far clearer and eloquently than I have ever been able to) the ravishes of trying to cope with a void or a fear, and how it led into addiction. This is what I have been trying to explain to my therapist and partner for so long now – the drive to avoid, destroy, fill, eliminate or simply ignore that void within me which is related to love and the fear that I may never be able to feel it filled. That hunger that drives my hunger, my bingeing … but anyhows …
